European Network of Cancer Registries
Italy
The European Network of Cancer Registries (ENCR) is a collaborative network that brings together national and regional cancer registries from across Europe to improve the quality, comparability, and availability of cancer data. Established in 1990 and coordinated by the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission, based in Ispra, Italy, ENCR works to standardize cancer registration methods, support data collection, and facilitate research and policy-making related to cancer control. As a technical and scientific network, ENCR plays a crucial role in ensuring that cancer incidence, mortality, and survival data are accurate and harmonized across European countries. This enables better monitoring of cancer trends, evaluation of screening and treatment programs, and support for national and EU-level public health strategies. ENCR also organizes training, provides coding and classification guidelines, and maintains a platform for sharing best practices among cancer registries.
