Latin American and Caribbean Society of Medical Oncology

Latin America and the Caribbean region

The Latin American and Caribbean Society of Medical Oncology (SLACOM) is a regional network of oncology professionals and institutions that promotes collaboration, education, and research across Latin America and the Caribbean. As a multinational professional network, SLACOM brings together medical oncologists, cancer researchers, and healthcare providers to advance cancer care standards, facilitate continuing medical education, and support clinical research in the region. The society focuses on addressing the unique challenges faced by low- and middle-income countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, including disparities in access to care, late-stage diagnoses, and limited oncology resources. Through congresses, training programs, and strategic alliances with international cancer organizations, SLACOM strengthens regional capacity in medical oncology and advocates for policies that improve cancer outcomes across diverse populations. While SLACOM collaborates regionally, its administrative and operational functions are supported by institutions and leadership located throughout Latin America
