Kenyan Network of Cancer Organizations (KENCO)
Kenya
The Kenyan Network of Cancer Organizations (KENCO) is an umbrella body formed to unite over 50 civil society organizations, patient groups, and advocacy bodies working on cancer control in Kenya. KENCO’s role is to strengthen cancer awareness, prevention, early detection, and patient support by coordinating its members’ activities and amplifying their collective voice. It conducts community outreach campaigns to educate the public about cancer risk factors, symptoms, and the importance of screening, especially for breast and cervical cancers. KENCO also engages policymakers to improve cancer policies, treatment availability, and funding. By facilitating training and resource sharing, the network builds the capacity of member organizations to provide psychosocial support and survivorship services. KENCO exemplifies how grassroots civil society collaboration can complement government efforts to expand equitable access to cancer services across Kenya.
