Eastern Africa Consortium for Clinical Research
Uganda
The Eastern Africa Consortium for Clinical Research (EACCR) is a multi-country research network designed to build regional capacity in conducting high-quality clinical trials and operational research, including on non-communicable diseases like cancer. While originally focused on infectious diseases, the consortium’s infrastructure and capacity development efforts also benefit cancer research and treatment indirectly. It operates across Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Ethiopia, and Sudan, with its secretariat based at the Uganda Virus Research Institute in Entebbe. EACCR provides training in research ethics and clinical practices, upgrades laboratories, promotes networking among researchers, and facilitates cross-border collaboration on studies. By strengthening institutions and human resources, it supports East Africa’s long-term ability to conduct cancer-related clinical research.
