Africa Cancer Registry Network

United Kingdom

The African Cancer Registry Network (AFCRN) is a regional network that supports cancer registries across sub-Saharan Africa, including in East African countries such as Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, and Ethiopia. Its main goal is to strengthen cancer surveillance by providing technical assistance, standardizing data collection, and building capacity for accurate, population-based cancer registration. AFCRN supports national registries in collecting reliable data on cancer incidence, mortality, and survival, which is critical for national planning, research, and policy-making. It also works closely with international partners like the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and supports training and mentorship programs for registry staff across the region. The network plays a vital role in helping countries understand their cancer burden and evaluate their cancer control efforts.
