UCI Regional Cancer Centres Network

This network was developed by the Ugandan government and the Uganda Cancer Institute to decentralize cancer care by establishing regional cancer centres in different parts of the country. These centres are located in Gulu (Northern Uganda), Mbarara (Western), Arua (West Nile), and Mbale (Eastern), with others planned. The aim is to reduce the burden on UCI in Kampala and bring cancer services closer to communities, especially in rural and underserved regions. Each regional centre offers screening, early detection, diagnosis, chemotherapy, palliative care, and psychosocial support, and also contributes data to the national cancer registry. This network is critical in improving equity in cancer care access and reducing delays in diagnosis and treatment.
